The Mundelein Fire Department hosted the official “Name Our Fire Engine” competition. On September 21, 2008 the winning name was announced and the new name was unveiled on the engine. "BIG MACK"   presented by Mrs. Navarro's  5th grade class from Mechanics Grove.

The Competition:

The staff was to select  three (3) of the best names submitted on behalf of their school. Friday September 12, 2008 was the final day for the acceptance of the schools top 3 submissions. The winning name was selected by the fire department from the school entries. At the fire departments Open House the name was unveiled.

Engine 2

During Fire Prevention Week, October 5-11 the winning classroom had a pizza party & photo session as well as rides on the newly named engine.

The fire engine is a 1972 Mack pumper. This was the departments reserve engine until 2007. In 2008, through the sponsorship of McDonald’s, JayR’s Welding and The Jean Ross Company, the engine
was converted to a public education vehicle.
